Can you tell us more about yourself and how your early life was?
My name is Ambassador Engineer Victor Ogbeide Jonah. I have a passion for electrical engineering, which motivated me to pursue my first degree at Enugu State University of Science and Technology. After completing my service, I was determined to excel and secured my first job in a company specializing in electrical installations and services just 20 days after my passing-out parade. Driven by my desire for growth and innovation, I continued seeking opportunities that would enhance my skills and experiences. This led me to work for a well-known telecommunications company, where I started as a field trainee. Within 3 to 4 months, I was promoted to a service engineer, allowing me to fully utilize my expertise. Later, I joined another telecommunications company famously known as Lost Tower. I also received an offer from a company in the UAE, which provided me with invaluable international experience. I was never interested in settling for just local experience.

As I progressed in my career, I began contemplating starting my own company to train others. I realized that I could not achieve this goal while working for someone else, so I made the decision to resign and fully committed to the solar industry. This led me to where I am today.
You are the founder of Margaret Ogbeide Memorial Foundation; can you enlighten us on what sets this vision running and a background history of the foundation?
The foundation came to life after the passing of my beloved mother. However, its history does not begin with her death. It was initially known as the Engr Victor Jonah Ogbeide Foundation. After losing my mother who also had a deep passion for giving back to society, I decided to honor her by renaming it the Margaret Ogbeide Memorial Foundation, commonly known as the MOM Foundation. The MOM Foundation is built on a strong vision: to uplift individuals from grassroots levels, empower them, and help them realize their potential. Our passion for helping humanity and our drive to assist others inspired the establishment of this foundation. By God’s enabling grace, we are committed to making a difference and working tirelessly toward our goals.
Dee-Jovicxlimited is a well-known solar energy company, can you tell us its modus operandi and market value?
Any business built on a solid foundation tends to succeed, and as a technical person, I understand the intricacies behind solar installations and the other services we provide here. We don’t just focus on solar; we also offer CCTV installations, intercom systems, network boosters, Star link installations, car tracking, among other services. While we are primarily known for our solar installations, our innovative approach as Dee-Jovicx Limited led by myself, the CEO sets us apart. We consistently strive to expand our knowledge and capabilities, which is why the company stands strong in the market. Our experience is well-organized and comprehensive. With over 16 years in this industry, I have gained invaluable expertise both locally and internationally. This extensive experience is what allows Dee-Jovicx to thrive across the country.
A lot of persons have limited access to solar knowledge in Nigeria, but here you have a solar academy. Can you give us more insight about the academy and what every participant should expect after the end of the training?
Due to my background and passion for teaching, as well as my belief in empowering the younger generation to become strong and resilient in life, I founded the Solar Academy. Our goal at the academy is to train individuals, as well as train the trainers. We understand that today’s generation students and children often find learning challenging, especially with the distractions of phones, laptops, and other devices. Many prefer to take shortcuts to make money. However, we are dedicated to showing them how they can earn a living using both their hands and their minds. The Solar Academy serves as a platform to bring together various individuals and teach them skills in solar installation, maintenance, and sales, enabling them to become self-sufficient. Our curriculum extends beyond solar technology; we also instruct on camera handling and intercom systems. We ensure that our students excel in their endeavors. Our program includes practical training where we take students to job sites to learn installation techniques and troubleshooting skills. This hands-on experience prepares them to handle any technical challenges independently. Additionally, we have integrated the latest advancements in artificial intelligence into our curriculum. We provide our students with a comprehensive orientation to AI—its fundamentals, how it works, and its relevance to our field.
What are the challenges and complications that come when we talk about solar energy?
One of the major challenges is the initial cost of installation. Installing solar systems is not easy; it is capital-intensive. Additionally, many people lack awareness about solar energy, which means a lot of time is spent trying to educate and inform them about the benefits. Furthermore, since everything related to solar technology is electronic, factors that affect electronics can also impact the solar system. Moreover, government policies pose significant challenges to this business. The cost of importing products is very high due to policies that hinder business growth. Nevertheless, we must keep moving forward.
Delta State is fast becoming a zone for anyone who wants to thrive in business. What can you say about the business life here compared to other regions?
One can never truly understand the business opportunities in Delta until you visit. Many of us in the past, when we were in Lagos, Abuja, or Port Harcourt, believed that nothing was happening in Delta State. However, I think awareness is growing now. I am grateful for the leadership in Delta State, as they have made it possible for people to thrive in the region. I believe that if you are running a business and constantly face challenges, it can be quite stressful. High taxation can also be discouraging in any region, but Delta State is a good place for business.
You are a passionate, intentional and hardworking man. What would you say are the guiding principles that set your path in life?
I am a man of high integrity who does not compromise on standards. One of the key factors that drive us in business is the quality of our work and our commitment to integrity. I am always innovative and think ahead. I do not rest until I have accomplished a task; I never relax and wait for a miracle. I prioritize self-education, networking with others, and participating in various associations to expand my social capital and broaden my horizons. These principles also guide Dee-Jovicx and the MOM Foundation.
As a business tycoon, what can you say about the current government administration of this state?
The current administration is doing well, with many ongoing construction projects. I must say that Governor Sherrif Oborewhore is a supporter of the youth, and overall, the administration is performing adequately. Any business-minded individual will thrive unless they are not oriented toward business. I would like to take this opportunity to advise them to do more and create more opportunities for us business people to succeed.
From your wealth of experience, what would be your advice to young youths out there who might be trying to find their path in life?
To find a path in life, it starts with you defining what that path is. Imagine being in the dark; to reach the door that leads to the light outside, your determination must come from within. You can’t just wait for the light to shine what if it takes a hundred years? Instead of folding your hands and waiting, you must take action. For the youth who are striving to succeed, it’s up to them to rise. When we were younger, we often heard that “the future is in your hands.” It’s only as I grew up that I truly understood the meaning of that statement. You can choose to be poor or you can choose to be rich. If you use your hands for play instead of work, then when it’s time to play, you will be working hard just to survive. This is why, at the age of 70, some people find themselves looking for security jobs—they never set up a solid foundation for their lives. My advice is to prioritize integrity. Avoid cutting corners to make money because when you cut corners to earn money, you will cut corners in how you spend it too. Instead, focus on finding ideas that can generate income. We are the first solar company in the town of Agbor because I recognized an opportunity in the area, and here we are today. The youth should not wait for the government to provide everything. I currently have over 35 staff working under me in Delta State, not to mention those outside the state. If I can create employment opportunities for over 35 individuals, imagine if others followed suit; there would be plenty of jobs available for the youth. Success requires brainpower, not schemes to defraud others. If integrity is your guiding principle, success is inevitable. Additionally, nothing comes for free; success only comes to those who are prepared. There’s a popular saying: “Success is when opportunity meets preparation.” Young people should remain optimistic. Do not dwell on the possibility of failure. During difficult times, remember that challenges are opportunities for growth. A little challenge does not signify the end; rather, it’s a chance for you to excel. We have faced many obstacles, but we gathered ourselves and continued to move forward.
