The Government of Delta State will officially unveil the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) solution, also known as Plate Detect on Friday, November 14, 2025
The Commissioner, Directorate of Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure, stated this during a press briefing in Asaba the Delta State Capital. He said the ANPR solution will be deployed in Asaba and Warri, before extending to other cities across the state.
Agofure explained that the Plate Detect initiative is part of the State Government’s broader efforts to promote road safety, safeguard communities, and improve traffic flow.
Emphasizing that the system was designed to make road transport safer and more efficient by ensuring that motorists remain compliant with vehicle documentation and traffic regulations.
The Commissioner further explained that the technology will automatically detect vehicles with expired or invalid documentation, including vehicle licences, insurance, and roadworthiness certificates helping motorists renew their papers on time and avoid inconveniences.
He noted that the system will monitor over-speeding, especially in areas with designated speed limits, as well as traffic light violations at specific intersections. These measures, he said, are aimed at discouraging unsafe driving habits and encouraging responsible road use statewide.
“With the Plate Detect technology, motorists and transport operators will be able to track and verify their vehicle documentation status seamlessly and in real time.”.
The Commissioner also noted that the system will significantly reduce altercations between motorists and law enforcement agencies, ensuring smoother and more orderly movement on the roads.
He maintain that the initiative is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to adopting modern technology that protects citizens, enhances efficiency, and strengthens security.
Agofure however, urged all vehicle owners and transport operators to embrace the innovation and ensure full compliance.
He assured that additional details and guidelines on how to use the platform will be communicated to the public, adding that the Directorate of Transport has already commenced awareness campaigns through jingles and official government channels.
